The body of al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was killed in a US drone strike in Afghanistan, has not been found, and the search is still ongoing. This is what Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said on Thursday. News from Reuters.
The United States said it killed an al Qaeda leader in a drone strike in Kabul last month.
In July, US officials claimed Zawahiri was killed by a missile fired from a drone as he stood on the balcony of his hideout. However, the United States confirmed that no one else was harmed in that attack except Zawahiri.
The Taliban did not make a statement at the time, although the United States made a statement about the attack. Since then, the Taliban started searching to confirm the matter.
Zawahiri’s death was the biggest blow to the organization since the killing of former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden more than a decade ago.
