The US has long lost any semblance of impartiality and neutrality in dealing with the Middle East. Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s permanent representative to the United Nations, told the Security Council on Wednesday.
He said, the dual position of the Americans in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is clear. The United States continues to unilaterally attempt to create a picture of a dire situation by replacing genuine political peace in the region with something purely economic.
Nebenzia said the main paradox is that the United States claims itself as the main sponsor of the Middle East peace process. But the country lost its neutrality long ago. Any honest mediator needs to be here.
The diplomat also said that the previous US administration’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights undermined US commitments to the UN General and Security Council.
