Israeli forces shot dead two Palestinians during an army operation near a flashpoint town in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Health Ministry said two people, Izzedin Bassem Hamamareh (24) and Amjad Adnan Khaliliyah (23), were killed during the attack in Jaba village, south of Jenin, on Saturday.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad group said Hammareh and Khaliliyah were members of its group. In a statement, the group condemned the killings and described the two men as ‘heroic martyrs’.
The statement said they were killed “while intervening against the occupying forces who were carrying out cowardly killings”.
Another young man, Yazen Samer Bari, 19 years old, who was wounded by Israeli forces on January 2, died, the ministry said. Jabari was wounded in the village of Kufar Dan near Jenin during an army operation. Two other Palestinians were killed in the same operation.
In just a few days this year, 12 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank. Three of them are minors. The Israeli military has maintained an intense campaign of raids and killings for nearly a year.
Since a series of Palestinian-led attacks on Israel began in March, the Israeli military has launched an operation called Break the Wave, which includes near-daily raids, mass arrests and killings in the occupied West Bank centered on Jenin. Nablus, where Palestinian armed resistance has become more organized over the past year.
