Heavy rains have caused flash floods in Brazil. Thousands of people from hundreds of families have been trapped in the flood. The rescue workers have already started to rescue the victims.

According to the Reuters report, heavy rains caused severe flooding in the southern state of Santa Catarina on Thursday. Videos shared by local authorities showed many houses submerged under the muddy water. Water has reached the roof of some houses. A rescue helicopter is flying over the scene.

More than 880 residents have been evacuated from flood-hit areas so far, authorities said. Santa Catarina officials also advised locals to avoid roadways. A state of emergency has been declared in several cities.

On the other hand, at least two people were killed in a landslide in the southern Brazilian state of Parana on Wednesday, CNN reported. A landslide occurred on the BR-376 highway in Brazil after heavy rains. Six trailers and at least 15 cars were crushed.

A representative of the fire department said they feared 30 to 50 people were missing after the landslide.

Flooding at this time of year is a regular occurrence in Brazil. Due to this type of flood, the country has caused massive destruction several times in the last few decades. At least 94 people were killed in landslides in the historic Brazilian mountain town of Petropolis near Rio de Janeiro last February after heavy rains.
