Violence has increased dramatically in the United States this year. Gun attacks are happening almost regularly somewhere in the country. Along with that, the number of casualties also increased. According to the Gun Violence Archive, a US research organization, more than 600 people have been killed in gun violence in the United States as of November this year. 2022 may even be the second highest year for gun violence in the United States.

Residents of the country are spending their days in fear as a result of these attacks. Citing information from the Gun Violence Archive, an organization working on the use of weapons, CNN reported in a report that 3,179 people were shot in 607 gun attacks in the United States as of November 22 of this year. Among them, 637 people were killed and more than 2500 were injured.

More than 600 people have lost their lives in gun attacks this year

Statistics show that this number was slightly higher at the same time last year. In 2021, there were 690 gun attacks in the United States. A total of 3 thousand 267 people were shot. 645 of them died. On the other hand, in 2020, 2,873 people were shot in 610 attacks across the United States. Among them, 463 people were killed.

Analysts fear, there is still one more month left for the end of this year. If there are more deadly attacks this month, 2022 will become the second-highest year for gun violence.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been more gun attacks in the United States than the total number of days of the year so far. This trend has continued since 2019. In just one week in mid-November, 24 people were killed and at least 37 injured in gun violence across seven US states. There have been at least 32 gun attacks in the country since the beginning of November until the 22nd. A total of 177 people were shot and 43 killed in all the attacks. In the same period last year, 160 people were shot and 34 killed in 36 attacks.

Special precautions for travelers to the United States

Many countries around the world are concerned that gun attacks in the United States have become a casual affair. Therefore, several countries like United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Japan, France, Germany and Israel have advised the travelers of their own countries to follow the necessary precautions while traveling to the country.

The country’s government has urged those wishing to travel from Australia to the United States to follow local guidelines and regulations. Canadians are urged not to travel to the US-Mexico border at night. The British government advised not to travel alone in isolated areas with the same instructions.

On the other hand, Germany, one of the closest allies of the US in Europe, has also told its citizens to follow the necessary precautions. Japan, New Zealand and Mexico have given the same advice. Also, despite strong ties, Israel has asked citizens to be cautious when traveling to the United States.

According to a report by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published last April, there are 390 million firearms in the hands of 320 million citizens of the United States because the opportunity to legally own firearms is very open. Demands for control of these firearms have been raised at various times, but no action has been taken due to the pressure of arms manufacturers and traders. Conversely, gun violence has increased during the coronavirus pandemic.

Firearm deaths in 2020 among children ages 1 to 19 increased by 33.4 percent over the previous year. In past years, the leading cause of death for young Americans was car accidents, followed by gun violence.

According to CDC research, 29.5 percent of the overall child and adolescent fatality rate in the United States is firearms. In addition to murder, shooting deaths include suicide, ‘negligent’ and ‘accidental’ deaths. Earlier, a separate study published last February in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that 7.5 million US adults bought a firearm for the first time in April 2021, which is about 3 percent of the population.
