A teacher named Janelle Fernandez died after getting trapped in the elevator at her school. The accident happened at St. Mary’s English High School in Malad’s Chincholi port in northern India on Friday.

Janelle Fernandez was waiting on the seventh floor to go to the staff room on the third floor around 1 p.m. on Friday, police said, citing witnesses. Before he could fully enter the elevator, the doors closed and the elevator began to move.

After hearing his screams, the school security guards quickly rushed to rescue him and took him to a local hospital with serious injuries. Doctors there declared Janell dead.

A police official said that an investigation has been started by filing a case of unnatural death in the incident. It is also being investigated whether there was any mechanical fault in the lift.
