Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova dismissed the demand to expel Russia from the UN Security Council as “dog barking”.

On December 20, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba said Kyiv was preparing formal steps to revoke Russia’s membership in the UN Security Council. But he also admitted that this process will not be so easy.

Maria Zakharova recently responded to calls by the Kyiv government to expel Russia from the UN Security Council, saying such statements should be ignored.

In an interview with Russian radio station Sputnik about how Moscow should respond to the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s statement, Maria said, ‘Nothing needs to be done. Even if the dog barks, the caravan will move on.’

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has repeatedly said that it is impossible to exclude Russia from the UN Security Council.

White House spokeswoman Karin Jean-Pierre said at a Dec. 15 briefing that the United States also thinks it is impossible to change UN rules to do so.
