A man has set himself on fire in protest against plans for a state funeral for former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
According to the BBC, the man set himself on fire on Wednesday (September 21). A police officer was injured while putting out the fire on the person.
A note was found on the burnt person. The letter expressed opposition to Abe’s plans for a state funeral.
On July 8, 67-year-old Abe was shot dead during election campaigning in Nara, Japan.
Abe will be given a state funeral on September 27 with government funding. Many world leaders are expected to attend the funeral.
State funerals are rare in Japan. The last state funeral was held in the country in 1967. The funeral was organized for the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shigeru Yoshida.
