The country’s Supreme Court has banned all commercial activities within 500 meters of Agra’s Taj Mahal, a unique landmark of seventeenth-century Muslim architecture in India.
According to Anandabazar, the Supreme Court gave this instruction to protect the Taj Mahal yesterday on Monday.
Recently, a public interest litigation was filed alleging that shops are being built illegally around the Taj Mahal.
In that case, the division bench of Justice Sanjay Kisan Kaul and Justice AS Okar clearly directed the Agra Development Board to stop commercial activities within a radius of 500 meters from the boundary wall of the Taj Mahal. Also, no shops should be kept.
