The next session of North Korea’s parliament will be held in January. The next year’s plan along with the country’s budget will be made in this session. The country’s state media reported this on Wednesday.

Isolated North Korea’s powerless parliament meets once or twice a year. Sessions are usually day-long. During this time the necessary decisions of the ruling Works Party were taken.

According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the eighth session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) of the DPRK will be held in Pyongyang on January 17.

KCNA also said that the session will discuss the work review for 2022 and the plan and budget for 2023. The news agency did not clarify whether South Korean leader Kim Jong Un will attend the session.

It should be noted that the international community monitors the SPA session very closely to understand whether there is any change in North Korea’s economic policy or the reshuffle of a high-level official. The SPA met twice in total in February and September 2022.
