


Former UK ambassador Vicky Bowman and her husband Hiten Lin have been sentenced to one year in prison by a court in Myanmar’s military junta government.
BBC reported this information on September 2 (Friday).
The couple were detained in Yangon last week on charges of violating immigration laws.
According to BBC, they were arrested mainly for political reasons. Because arrests of foreign immigrants in the country for immigration violations are not common.
Recently, the UK has imposed various sanctions on the junta government. In response, Myanmar is believed to have jailed the British ambassador.
Vicky Bowman served as Ambassador to Myanmar from 2002 to 2006. He is currently in charge of the Myanmar Center for Responsible Business in Yangon.
