A man attacked with a knife Wednesday at the busy Gare du Nord train station in the French capital, injuring several people. French authorities reported this information. News from AFP.

The man was arrested at the station after attacking and injuring people, a police source told AFP on condition of anonymity. The station is mainly used as a hub for trains to London and Northern Europe.

Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter: ‘A man injured several people in Gare du Nord this morning. He was quickly arrested. Kudos to the police for their effective and courageous response.’

According to operator SNCF’s live departure board, the incident led to heavy traffic at the station in the morning, causing significant train delays.

The attacker’s motive was not immediately clear. France has been on tight security alert since 2015 following deadly attacks by Islamist extremists.
