Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinians, including a teacher, in a raid on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. This year, a total of 17 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s operation.

According to Al-Jazeera’s report, Jawad Farid Bawakneh (57), a local school teacher. He is the father of six children. He was killed by Israeli forces in the Jenin refugee camp on Thursday morning. Besides, another 28-year-old fighter named Adam Jabarin was killed.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed the names and ages of the dead at 7am. At least four others were injured in the shooting.

Bawakneh’s son, who was present at the scene, described the killing as a ‘death sentence’ in a TV interview. The Palestinian Ministry of Education mourned him in a statement and said he was a teacher at a boys’ high school in Jenin.

The Israeli army launched a large-scale operation with more than 70 armored vehicles on the Jenin refugee camp inside the city at around 2:30 p.m., and withdrew three and a half hours later.

Special forces descended on the camp on foot, snipers took up positions on their rooftops, and roadblocks were set up around Jenin and the camp. Clashes with Palestinian fighters began soon after the operation began.

During the operation, the army reportedly tried to arrest Khaled Abu Zaineh, the leader of the Gaza-based Palestine Islamic Jihad (PIJ) armed group.

Israeli media reported that a soldier was slightly wounded when an explosive device made by Palestinian fighters detonated in a house. In 2023, they killed a total of 17 Palestinians, including four children.
