The country’s famous actress Taraneh Alidosti has been arrested for speaking out in support of the ongoing anti-government protests in Iran. News – BBC.

He was arrested on Saturday on charges of defamation after failing to provide evidence to support his claims, the BBC reported, citing a national daily.

It is said that some other celebrities including Alidusti have been detained for questioning for making baseless statements on recent issues.

Meanwhile, Alidusti (38) is a popular Iranian actress. He became widely popular by acting in the 2016 Oscar winning movie ‘The Salesman’.

On the 8th of this month, he spoke about Mohsin Sekari’s death sentence through social media. Mohsin was executed for his involvement in the protests that day.

Alidusti said in the status, ‘Your silence means supporting tyranny and oppressors. Every international organization that watches this bloodshed but takes no action is a disgrace to humanity.

Incidentally, the death of Masha Amini, a Kurdish girl in police custody on September 16 for wearing a hijab, sparked protests in Iran. Alidusti posted on social media several times taking a stand in favor of the protesters.

Thousands of citizens have been detained since the protests. Four hundred of them were sentenced to 10 years in prison.
