Russia’s parliament passed a law on Thursday banning homosexuality. Not only does the country outlaw homosexuality, the promotion and exhibition of homosexuality is also strictly prohibited. Violation of the law will be punished. News from Reuters.

Along with passing the law, Russian lawmakers labeled the promotion of homosexuality as a Western conspiracy. They said that homosexuals and their followers will be suppressed with a strong hand to protect the future generation from the western bad culture.

But the law still needs the approval of the upper house of parliament and President Vladimir Putin to be implemented. However, Putin has always taken a hard line on the issue of homosexuality. So it is clear that this law is going to be implemented in Russia soon.

Under the new law, any action or information that is considered an attempt to promote homosexuality, be it in public, online or in films, books or advertisements, is a punishable offense if there is even the slightest hint of promoting homosexuality in any way.

Violation of this law will result in a fine of up to 400,000 rubles and a 15-day detention for foreign nationals engaged in LGBTQ activities, as well as deportation from Russia.

Previously, the law only outlawed LGBT lifestyle promotion aimed at children. The new proposal bans the ‘display’ of LGBT behavior to children.

Lawmakers say they are determined to destroy the traditional values of the “Russian world” against the liberal West.

Authorities have already used existing laws to stop gay rights marches and detain gay rights activists Rights groups say the new law aims to completely banish so-called ‘non-traditional’ LGBT lifestyles practiced by gay women, gay men, bisexuals and transgender people from public life.
