At least 9 people have lost their lives in an accident on a highway in Gujarat, India. The horrific accident took place when a bus driver carrying pilgrims had ‘heart disease’ and rammed a private car.

Another 28 people were seriously injured in the accident on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway in Navsari around 4 am on the New Year’s Day Saturday.

The Times of India said that the bus was returning to Valsad with pilgrims from Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mohotsav in Surat. The bus driver suddenly suffered a heart attack on the national highway.

Then the bus lost control and rammed the SUV. Eight people died on the spot. The bus driver was taken to hospital. Doctors there declared him dead. The condition of 11 injured bus passengers is critical. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Surat.

India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims in a tweet on Twitter, saying, “This accident is heartbreaking.” My deepest condolences to the families of the victims. May God give them strength to bear this grief.
