Four people have died in a devastating house fire in the Bronx, New York. The New York Times reported that three children were among the dead.

The fire broke out at a high-rise on Quimby Avenue near Castle Hill Avenue in the Unionport section around 6 a.m. local time, officials said.

Two children were rescued from the house and declared dead on the spot. Officials also confirmed that another child and an adult rescued from the scene have died.

Police said the youngest child among the victims was only 10 months old. The others are a 10- to 12-year-old boy and a 22-year-old youth. The city medical examiner will report their cause of death.

A man and woman injured in the fire remained in hospital as of midnight Sunday.
