The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has seized secret documents from former US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

BBC reported this information in a report on Saturday (August 13).

According to the FBI, those documents could seriously harm US national security.

The Wall Street Journal reported that among the items recovered by the FBI from Trump’s home were 20 boxes, photo binders and a letter written on behalf of Roger Stone, a longtime Trump ally and political consultant. Besides, a document written about the ‘President of France’ has been recovered. However, it is not clear what is contained in that document.

The report further states that the documents have been separated into several categories. As seen in a list, one of these is reserved for ‘TS/SCI’ or Top Secret/Sensitive Information. which could cause ‘extremely serious’ harm to US security. The list also includes ‘four sets of top secret documents’, ‘three sets of secret documents’ and three sets of ‘confidential’ documents. No further details were given about the recovered documents.

However, Trump denied these allegations. According to him, he did nothing wrong and those documents are also not confidential.

For the first time in US history, a former president’s home has been raided for criminal evidence.

According to the country’s law, no president can remove important state documents. The search was conducted as part of an investigation into whether Trump illegally removed documents when he left the White House in January last year.

Trump could face up to five years in prison if convicted of illegally removing classified documents.
