Comparing a wife with other women and constantly scolding her for not being the life partner she expected are manifestations of emotional abuse by a husband. Such behavior cannot be expected to be tolerated by a wife. Recently, the High Court of Kerala state of India said so.
The court issued the ruling dismissing a man’s plea against a family court order of separation after nearly 13 years of separation from his wife. News from NDTV.
The family court ordered the separation of the couple due to lack of fulfilling marital life. The husband appealed to the High Court against the verdict. However, a bench of Justices Anil K Narendran and CS Sudhar said the divorce was ordered under the Divorce Act 1869 as the husband was mentally torturing the wife.
The observation of the High Court bench said, ‘The plaintiff was constantly taunted by her husband as she could not fulfill his expectations as a wife. He used to compare her with other women. This is definitely mental abuse, which no wife can tolerate.’
The complaint also states that the husband did not find his wife physically attractive. For this he did not have sexual relations with his wife.
