The historical speech of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the basis of Bangladesh’s foreign policy ‘Friendship with all, enmity with none’ – has been included in the resolution titled ‘International Year of Dialogue as a Guarantee of Peace, 2023’ adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.

Bangabandhu’s quote was inserted in the 14th paragraph of the resolution on Tuesday (December 6) local time.

According to a press release received in Dhaka on Wednesday, Turkmenistan raised the resolution in the plenary of the General Assembly on Tuesday in the global context of the post-Covid world order and the Russia-Ukraine war. Later it was unanimously accepted. Bangabandhu’s quote was added to the fourth paragraph of the resolution.

The historical speech of Bangabandhu, one of the proponents of world humanity and world peace, has been included in the UN resolution for the first time. As Bangabandhu’s quote is inserted in the fourth paragraph of the resolution, ‘Recognizing the importance of fighting poverty, hunger, disease, illiteracy and unemployment and emphasizing friendship with all and enmity with none in the spirit of constructive cooperation, dialogue and mutual understanding, these objectives will help achieve

It is to be noted that the preamble of this paragraph is made from the conceptual basis of the issues on which the Father of the Nation emphasized the establishment of world peace during his speech to the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 1974. The resolution was co-sponsored by 70 countries, including all South Asian countries.
