


British novelist Salman Rushdie, the author of The Satanic Verses, was attacked. British media BBC reported that this attack was made on him on a stage in New York state.
Ever since writing The Satanic Verses, the author has received regular death threats.
According to the BBC, the Booker Prize-winning author was speaking at an event at the Chautauqua Institution in New York.
Witnesses said they saw a man running on stage. The man was seen punching or stabbing Rushdie while getting to know him.
A video posted online shows participants rushing to the stage immediately after the incident.
The assailant has reportedly been detained from the scene.
However, Rushdie’s current condition is not known.
The Indian-born novelist rose to fame with Midnight’s Children in 1981. The book sold over a million copies in the UK alone.
