At least 27 people have been killed in an attack by al-Qaeda separatists in the war-torn Middle Eastern country of Yemen.
Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) attacked several positions of a group called the United Arab Emirates-trained Security Belt in Yemen’s southern Abyan province, news agency AFP reported. Among those killed were 21 separatist fighters and the remaining six members of al-Qaeda’s Yemen branch.
A Yemeni government official said 21 people, including an officer (security belt), and six al-Qaeda fighters were killed in the nearly three-hour battle.
