Imran Khan, the former prime minister of the country who was shot during the Long March rally demanding to ‘restore democracy’ in Pakistan, said, ‘God gave me another life.’

The Tehreek-e-Insaf Pakistan leader said this in a statement after being taken from the rally venue in Wazirabad to a hospital in Lahore on Thursday.

Imran said in the statement, ‘Allah gave me another life. God willing, I will fight again.’

Senator Faizal Javed of Imran’s party PTI was injured in the shooting incident at the rally in Wazirabad. At least nine people were injured in the incident.

Former PTI Minister Fawad Chowdhury claimed that Imran Khan was attacked with AK-47. Meanwhile, PTI’s top leaders have asked workers-supporters to gather at Liberty Chowk in Lahore to protest the attack on Imran Khan.

On Thursday afternoon, the shooting occurred during a rally of former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Gujranwala, Pakistan. The country’s media reported that he was rushed to the hospital.

According to NDTV, Imran Khan was seen being taken to an SUV with his right leg bandaged. The attacker has been arrested. The assailant fired at Imran Khan. At the time of the shooting, the PTI leader was calling for a long march while standing on top of a container.

PTI leader Imran Ismail said party chief Imran Khan was shot three to four times in the leg. Speaking on Pakistan’s Bowl TV, he said he was by Imran’s side during the attack. Faisal Javed was also injured in the incident and Imran received three to four bullet wounds in his leg.

He added that the attacker was directly in front of the container and was firing with an AK-47.

Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was shot dead at a similar rally in 2007, about 200 km from Islamabad. Analysts say that the attack on Imran Khan is a repeat of that.

A chaotic scene erupted near his reception camp at Allahwala Chowk after the sound of gunshots, Geo News reported. At least four other party leaders are among the injured.
