The biggest prisoner exchange since the start of the Ukraine-Russia war. This is the first time in the last seven months that around 300 prisoners have been exchanged.
Qatar-based media Al-Jazeera reported this information.
In addition to citizens of Russia and Ukraine, the exchange also includes citizens of the United States, United Kingdom and Morocco. Many of them were sentenced to death after arrest.
Russia released 215 prisoners of Ukraine. There are five commanders among them. They headed to the southern port city of Mariupol in Ukraine.
In contrast, Ukraine sent back 55 Russians, Muscovite Ukrainians and Viktor Medvedchuk. He is the leader of a banned pro-Russian party, who faced sedition charges.
A prisoner exchange between the two countries was brokered by Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for this.
