95 migrants have been rescued from the coast of Libya in the Mediterranean Sea. A rescue ship named Ocean Viking rescued them on Wednesday. However, four people are still missing.

Of the few rescued, AFP said four were believed to have fallen into the sea before rescuers could reach the overcrowded boat.

A patrol plane from the German humanitarian NGO Sea Watch spotted the vessel and sent out a distress signal. Ocean Viking conducts hour-long rescue operations in the Mediterranean Sea in search of missing persons. And they fail to find it.

The NGO said it regretted the departure of two Libyan patrol boats in the area without responding to requests to assist in the rescue operation.

The International Organization for Migration has identified the Central Mediterranean route as the world’s most dangerous migration route. An estimated 1,377 migrants have gone missing on this route in 2022.
