President Gustavo Petro wrote in a Twitter message, ‘Nine people have been rescued from the scene. Three people lost their lives and around 20 people are still trapped. This is a tragic incident.’

Civil defense officials said a girl child was among the dead. He is about seven years old. A person who survived the incident said that due to the intelligence of the bus driver, he was spared from further damage in the landslide incident.

Andres Ibarguen radio station Loro Stereo said, “During the landslide, the bus driver pulled back a bit and a major accident was avoided.” Defense officials said the bus had left from Koli city with 25 passengers. The rainy season, which began in August, has been the worst in Colombia’s 40-year history.
