


Heavy rains have flooded five small rivers and caused landslides in central Venezuela, killing at least 25 people and leaving 52 missing. Citizen Security Vice President Remizio Ceballos made the announcement in a televised address Sunday evening. Reuters news.
Rainfall Saturday night sent large tree trunks and debris from nearby mountains into the community of Tejerias, 67 kilometers southwest of Caracas. Businesses and agricultural land were damaged, said Vice President Delsey Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said a month’s worth of rain fell in just eight hours. It causes floods. Everything, including food and drink, was swept away by the flood water. Our main priority now is to find people trapped under mud and rocks across the city. Besides, military personnel and rescue workers are searching the river banks for survivors.
Meanwhile, President Nicolás Maduro said in a tweet that he had declared the area a disaster zone and declared three days of mourning over the loss of life.
